Seeds Sown
I passed a man harried by obvious trial
Caught his eye and flashed a smile
I helped an elderly lady cross the street
Slowly she walked on tired feet
The wind had freed from a child's hand, a kite
Until I chased it down from its unfettered flight
I saw a homeless man in the winter drear
And stopped to share a meal and some cheer
I have never seen any of these since
Our brief encounters thence
But what if . . .
The man was heading home for his needed drug
And instead greeted his wife with a warm hug
The elderly lady had thought no one cared
And . . . went home and her own life spared
The child went home with kite in toe
And let his sister play with his G.I. Joe
The homeless person decided his blanket would fit two
And shared with another giving him hope anew
Though they forever remain unknown
How wonderful are such seeds sown
