Primping
How much time do you spend primping?
Not a fashion item or accessory scrimping?
As you pass a mirror, do you steal a peak?
Do you purse and give your shirt a gentle tweak?
Do you caress you skin or pat your hair?
Do you check your nails to find what's hidden there?
Do you smooth your brow or pluck a lash?
Do you give your face a refreshing splash?
We all primp and fuss to look our best -
Often for people we dislike and detest.
Meanwhile . . . we leave our soul at home
As hither and yon we scurry and roam -
With never a thought of how dusty or crinkled
It might be or that its suit is quite wrinkled.
We claim we're too busy and just haven't the time
To polish and clean and scrape off the grime.
And I wonder how shining would be our soul
If we spent just half our primping on our soul.
