marbles

Marbles

Life is a game of marbles and you will lose
Four thousand spheres for you to choose
Pling. Pling. Into a huge glass jar go the orbed hues
There are but two simple rules

Rule 1: Each Saturday, one marble comes out of the crowd
Rule2: Absolutely no cheating allowed

We'll be nice for your opening hand
Only take out 50 marbles for each calendar spanned
Are you twenty? Out come marbles one thru one thousand
I'm forty and so I take out the first two thousand

My jar doesn't look so full anymore . . .
Is it Saturday again? Out comes one more
Each marble now more precious than before
Each marble further depleting my shrinking store

And now the meaning of the game is made clear
I resolve to treasure every moment dear
And determine to do something worthwhile ere
I see each priceless marble disappear

And no stealing my marbles!
